Greetings, traveller!
It is with deep honour and gratitude I present to you: Thule.
It’s been a long time in the making, and has been ready for a while now, but it’s finally time to put it out there.
Thule is a place which many Ancient Writers speculated as being a mysterious northern land that lay across the sea,
filled with mythological figures, haunting forests and a surreal reversal of the way Man and Gods live.
In this Ancient Land, the gods were real, as real as You or I are now.
Or at least, this is was what was thought to be true by the Greek and Roman geographers of long ago.
Would it not be a fascinating and exciting, if not dangerous, land for someone to travel to?
A land full of mystery and wonder, so foreign and so distant from anything we have known of before.
This is what I have tried to capture, but in a musical fashion.
Here, you are that traveller.
You are the foreigner in Thule.
You have not seen a land like this before, where the Gods are real and live amongst men, where the trees sing in a tongue of their own,
where Sky Deities clash for monolithic epochs beneath the mortals that they have spawned and nurtured, a place accessible only by those who are willing to search for it.
I hope that this album it is at least a partial representation of this goal and this aura of mystery surrounding Thule.
Until next time,
Jack.
(And for the record, I was not influenced by Varg Vikernes’ ‘Thulean Perspective’ to make this album – praise be to Varg).
Altarium would like to thank the following people/bands/places for their inspiration, assistance, and simply ‘being’. In no particular order:
My Father, Chris Meyer, Zeke Sporn, Dilan Hunt, Matt Borel, Brodie Axen, Timothy Waldrom, Brad Wright, the mountains and forests of the Great Dividing Range,
Matt Ford, Winterrealm Records, Torn Flesh Records, Wintercorpse, Aberration Nexus, Northwind, Darkened Winter, life, and every single Altarium fan out there – you know who you are,
and I deeply appreciate your appreciation of my music.
Thank you.
In particular, Altarium would like to thank Morkner for the album’s artwork. His artwork is available for viewing here:
